EcoHelpers have played a valuable
part in the restoration of native vegetation in Solsitce Canyon.
This is just one example of the amazing work accomplished
during the EcoHelpers programs. Hunderds of students have
learned about the resources and made a lasting contribution
to this national park.

This project began in Spring 2003.
Approximately 5 acres of this former pasture were invaded
by non-native Carnation Spurge (Euphorbia terracina) which
is the bright green plant mass above.

This is the same area 15 months later in early Summer 2004.
Most of the Euphorbia was removed and replaced with native
coastal sage scrub plant species thanks to the efforts of
thousands of EcoHelpers.

This is the same area six months
later in Winter 2005. The native plants have grown thanks
to the rain along with some non-native black mustard (Brassica
nigra) and Euphorbia. Since this picture was taken, EcoHelpers
have continued planting and weeding this area, thus furthering
the process of restoring the natural biodiversity and wildlife
habitats in Solstice Canyon.
